Callais gutted the Voting Rights Act and nine Southern states lost federal oversight overnight. Voting is one front of many — safety, education, housing, economic freedom are all under attack. We have always been the true custodians of democracy. We are the architects now.
Freedom Summer opened Juneteenth in New York City and carried through the John Lewis Voting Rights Days. Freedom Fall carries it the rest of the way — mobilizations, trainings, and election protection straight through November 3. Every Black neighborhood in America is a Great Migration story. The South is everywhere. We move together, or we don't move at all.
We are no longer just citizens of this nation. We are founders of a new one. This fall that means people inside the polling place, people standing watch at the door, and people on the phones — poll workers, poll watchers, and phone bankers in every community the Great Migration built.
